Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence
2004 Annual General Meeting |
Conference
Information
The 2004 Annual General Meeting will bring CII members together
to celebrate “50 Years of Excellence.” Joan M. Beach,
the 2004 Annual General Meeting host, has started planning an outstanding
program to make this CII milestone a rewarding and memorable event.
In addition to the regular business meetings and lecture programs,
we are excited to announce that Joan has put together a special
program featuring guest mystery writers and selected private investigators
in a panel moderated by Benjamin M. Schultz, Ph.D., mystery
writer and noted clinical psychologist. In keeping with our “50
Years of Excellence” celebration,
the panel’s theme will be “The Then and Now, Covering
50 Years.” |
The Silent Auction is one of our most popular events, and auction
items are needed. If you are planning to provide items for the silent
auction, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can “talk
them up” over the next several months. Other events are still
in the planning stage and, since this is such an important event
for our organization, your input would be very welcome. Please contact
Joan if you have any suggestions, or if you would like to participate
in the conference as an exhibitor, advertiser, or sponsor.
The conference hotel, The Hilton Alexandria, is an exceptionally
appointed hotel conveniently located in Old Town Alexandria. Because
the hotel is located across the street from the Metro and Amtrak
stations and just |
minutes from Reagan National Airport, you will find quick access
to all of the attractions of Washington D.C. and the history and
charm of Old Town Alexandria. Please make your hotel reservations
as soon as you can by calling the hotel directly at 703-837-0440.
A special CII rate has been negotiated, so be sure to mention the
name “Council of International Investigators” when you
call to make your reservation. For more information on the Hilton
Alexandria, go to www.hiltonalexandria.com.
It is definitely not too early to register for the 2004 AGM! Call
Joan or her staff assistants, Sharon Spates or Ruby Hansen, and
let them know you’re excited and want to register now. You
can reach them by phone at 703-359-8084, or e-mail her at joanmbeach@aol.com.

| WALI
NEWS |
Paula
Howell, Paula Howell Investigations,
and Kelly Evans, |
The
Washington Association of Investigators held a Fall conference on
Saturday, October 25 in Seattle, Washington with 110 attendees.
In addition to WALI members, there were investigators from Arizona,
California, New Mexico, and Oregon, several attorneys and paralegals,
and 24 new WALI members (who took advantage of the membership discount
offered for those joining who were also attending the conference)
in attendance.
By all accounts, the conference was a huge success. It was the second
largest gathering of PI's in the State of WA (the WAD conference
in 2002 was the largest) in the past 20 |
years.Jimmie
Mesis was the keynote
speaker at lunch and also a presenter in the afternoon on surveillance.
Several top Seattle attorneys were also speakers. Additional educational
topics included: criminal defense, trademark infringement, computer
forensics, employee misconduct investigations, marketing and operating
a small business, and interviewing techniques with a focus on detecting
deception. Attendees gave the conference very high marks for the
quality of presentations by all of the speakers.
The conference was organized and conducted by an all volunteer staff
headed by Kris Cappel of Seabold Group and co-chairs |
in
house investigator for the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine. There
were many on the committee who worked diligently throughout the
day including making and serving the lunch and doing the clean up.
The conference was held in the Tukwila Community Center, an exceptionally
beautiful facility and more reasonable priced than many hotels.
Because of the dedicated work of the WALI volunteers and savings
on the hard costs (such as catering and room rentals) the association
expects to make a nice profit which will help defray the costs of
operating the association.
WALI has approximately 135 members and the annual dues are $75.
